Periodic Limb Movement Syndrome (PLMS)

PLM is characterized by periodic episodes of repetitive and highly stereotyped limb movements that occur during sleep. Prevalence is not known but is a common finding in 34% of patients over the age of 60.
Symptoms:

  • EDS (excessive daytime somnolence)
  • Jerking of limbs during sleep
  • Usually associated with low iron levels
  • More prevalent in woman
